First Friday, Muletown School of Music

Take a break from a busy week that included elections and back-to-school with a holiday First Friday, live music, comedy and more.

1. First Fridays

Penny Butler and her graduate Kate Bryan, 2, walk down West 7th Street with Mark Lewis during a First Friday event in Columbia, Tenn., on Friday, Aug. 8, 2021.

After the first week back to school, I’m sure many local families could use a fun night out to kick off their weekend.

August’s First Friday edition will return this weekend. The ever-popular monthly gathering always draws a large crowd to downtown DC.

As always, many downtown stores will be open late and offer special sales. Dine at local restaurants, food trucks, shop among merchants, and enjoy lots of great live entertainment.

First Friday main events will take place from 5pm to 8pm on Friday.

2. Makky Kaylor Puckett’s launch party

Mackie Kaylor recently released her latest set of songs,

“The Swanky South” singer-songwriter Makky Kaylor returns to Puckett’s this Saturday for a special hometown concert that will include a special announcement.

The announcement is being kept under wraps, but Keillor says it will be worth the wait, and he’s especially proud to be revealed at Puckett’s, where he’s been a regular over the years. It was also where Keillor recorded his live album “Live from The Swanky South”, released last year.
