The Bonafides entertain the audience with different genres of music

A group of friends “teamed up” and started a music group that entertained residents at various locations in New Bern – sometimes on the front porches of one of their members’ homes.

The Bonafides have become a much sought after musical group playing at local theatres, events and events in the area. They can often be heard at fundraisers for various nonprofits, including the New Bern Historical Society and the Jones County Gas Station.

The band members play a variety of instruments including banjo, mandolin, fiddle, bass, guitar, drum and chords. They play bluegrass, folk, old time and several other genres of music.

“At the beginning of last year we got together with some friends and started playing on stage at the New Bern Civic Theatre,” said band member George Oliver. “The theater wasn’t open because of COVID, so we were able to get away from each other.”

“This was a project that grew out of COVID,” Oliver said. “It was interesting to find other ways to find that creative outlet and do it in a way that keeps other people safe,” he said.
